IMG_5308Lessons offer a fun learning environment for you to explore the way you move and the way you think about your movement.

Using activities that interest you, we discuss the principles that form the foundation of Alexander’s work and how these principles can be applied practically to help you move more efficiently and effectively.

Students begin with everyday activities like sitting, walking, speaking, sitting at a computer. Some also are interested in working on specialised activities they are skilled in like singing, martial arts, dancing, public speaking or playing an instrument.

Lessons consist of interacting through dialogue and some gentle hands on work. There is tremendous benefit to be gained from doing this work as part of a group, as watching others having lessons can often be as enlightening and interesting as having a lesson yourself. Also the questions and discussions that a group dynamic offers expands the learning, support and shared overall enjoyment of this work. Individual lessons are of course very beneficial and may suit some people better. You are welcome to try either or both.

One of the wonderful joys I find in this work is that, no matter if you’re a beginner at an activity that interests you, or if you’ve already reached a high degree of mastery, further improvement is always possible.

Educational Process

Although the benefits of the Alexander Technique can often include pain relief, less tension and improvement in health in general, it is not to be considered as a substitute for primary healthcare nor as a therapy.  The Alexander Technique is an educational process which appeals to the students inherent reasoning faculties, empowering the student to make informed and reasoned choices as to how to use their body in more useful ways, and to attain an increasingly higher level of freedom and co-ordination.
